On the slopes of the Ngorongoro Crater, there is one of my favorite hotels – the Gibbs Coffee Farm.
From the very first moment, you feel comfortable in the warm colonial-style setting. The staff are very friendly, and the ambiance captivates every traveler. At first, I stand on the terrace, admiring the beautiful view over the coffee plantation and the lushly overgrown slope of the Ngorongoro Crater. The wonderful aroma of the coffee roastery wafts everywhere… I’m in heaven.
Upon arriving at my room, I am greeted by a large suite with a terrace. The units almost feel like old plantation houses. I wander from the living room to the terrace, to the large bedroom and the bathroom, which not only has a marble bath but also an indoor and outdoor shower. For the winter evenings, each room has a functioning fireplace which distributes warmth into the room.
If the ambiance is not enough, there are several wonderful offerings for guests:
- The own vegetable and herb garden: Offered by many hotels, but done rarely as well as here. If you feel like it, you can pick your own salad and give it to the kitchen to make a salad of your own creation.
- At 5:00 PM, the choir of the small village sings to all guests while they enjoy a delicious gin and tonic overlooking the coffee plantations.
- Impressive is the Storytelling Tree. Here, guests sit around a Tembo fire and listen to stories from, among others, a traditional healer and guides about medicine, as well as insights into elephants and Maasai legends.
Now let’s talk about the food….
Both breakfast and dinner were excellent. The lodge remains true to its ‘Farm to Table’ concept. The wine selection is good and the prices very fitting to the region. In the evening, my table was set on the terrace. In front of me stretches the coffee plantation and the forests on the slope of the Ngorongoro Crater. Everything is perfect here, ambiance, location, views, staff, and rooms. I would be delighted to send each of my clients here.
